A look back to tennis in 1991

Sometimes I like to travel back in the tennis world to a different period and rediscover some milestones and interesting tidbits especially when they relate to tennis equipment and strings. May 1991 included Michael Chang promoting the Pump Reebok shoe (I remember having a few pair of those myself), Yonex had the widebody racket RQ-380, Mizuno was actually making tennis rackets and Head had the Double Power Wedge (DPW) line of rackets including the Atlantis, Polaris and Ventoris- a popular run with these rackets. Agassi was playing with a Donnay tennis Racket and Prince had the CTS widebody series which included the top selling CTS Thunderstick. I remember using the CTS Approach for a short time.

Monica Seles was promoting Technifibre strings along with her Yonex racket and Gamma was promoting their top strings such as 'marathon','gamma gut-3 and 'gamma gut xl'. Upon reading the Holabird Sports Discounters Ad in Tennis Magazine from 1991 I could find no mention of polyester strings yet. The durable string of its day was the Prince Problend and Prince nylon was the budget string many players were using.

We had the greats such as Pete Sampras, Stefan Edberg, Michael Chang and Ivan Lendl playing mens professional tennis. Monica Seles had just ended Steffi Graf's 186 weeks as number one and took over the spot.

These are just a few highlights that I found searching back to May 1991.
