what the heck is a floating clamp

THe idea of a floating clamp in racket stringing? When do you use it and what does it look like?

A floating clamp is designed to be used on racket stringing machines that due not have stationary clamps. Generally the entry level stringing machines such as the Klippermate, or other table top, drop weight machines use them. Generally they are plastic and will clamp two parallel strings. They basically keep the strings tight because they clamp on the previous string and therefore secure the strings from moving.
